I've eaten here several times since I moved to Jacksonville in 2010, and I am sadly surprised at all of the bad reviews! My rating is a hands-down 5-stars. I've never felt that I had bad or slow service, the food's always been delicious, and has never made me sick at all. Yesterday was my first time back since the renovations, and everything looks beautiful! I do miss the charm of things like the chalkboard menu... But they did a fantastic job making everything look clean and pretty. I liked the fresh sea-salt scrub samples that were offered in the bathroom... it's the little things! My Sweetwater 420 came out very shortly after it was ordered, very nice and cold, in a cold glass. I had the fish of the day sandwich, which happened to be catfish... Delicious! The side of fried plantains which I'd chosen as the accompaniment were fantastic as well! Everything tasted very fresh. My group and I sat outside on the deck and enjoyed the view and the breeze! One of my very favorite things about this place is how far away it feels, when it's actually so close. It's easy to forget that I'm in Jacksonville for a moment, it's tucked away just far enough from all of the action! My only complaint is that I miss the calamari and the seared tuna that is no longer offered... Please bring them back :)

Had a really bad experience. I would choose Beachside over this establishment all day. Owner had the audacity to blame us for the food not being good. Then came outside to insult us after the fact. I only support local business and this is one place that will never have my support.

The two stars is for the view and nice waitress. I hate writing bad reviews but I feel I should save someone else the money I wasted. Food is average seafood and very expensive for the area when there is much better seafood in the area a lot cheaper. Not only did my husband wait forever to get his drink order taken to only be told they couldn't make a mojito because they are out of mint so he orders a martini and they do not have what they need for that so he gives up and goes home after a half hour of frustration to get one drink. Which he never got. My daughter ordered oysters and they were out of those. And they were also out of crab claws.Who knows what else they were out of but it was early on a Friday evening. Our drinks didn't taste like they had real alcohol in them so when the owner came by to apologize for our wait not the lack of items ......he slipped and said they only had a wine and beer license and don't have mojitos and I said it should not be on the menu then! And if they don't have a full liquor license how did they put vodka in my pink sunset or rum in my sons red white and blue drink? All he could say is we are a simple place with a limited bar. I have no problem with that but if you truly have vodka not some wine cooler mixed in the drinks then you should be able to make a martini!! This is when the owner didn't have more to say and walks away. I try believe they do not have any rum or vodka behind the bar! I looked on the way out and the only bottles on the bar shelves are wine and beers. My next peeve are the bugs on the patio where awful! They get in your drinks and food. One customer asked for a citronella candle or something to calm the bugs down but the owner again was non apologetic and just a flat "no". My daughter said one went up her nose. Wear bug spray and enjoy a beer or wine with the view. Food is not bad but not great either. We never got our appetizer either. My fish that was 28.00 for mahi mahi and fries was dry. Fries not fresh cut and my daughter loves scallops but wasn't eating hers because she said her coleslaw was better and after I tried one they were over cooked and chewy. I would give a second chance most times because all places have off nights but the owner and his non caring attitude has convinced me to go across the waterway. Crazy Fish used to be here and I miss the old owner! Very nice man!

Great food but server didn't tell us that there was an upcharge for requesting the fish of the day on our sandwich and tacos. Remember to ask when you come in, otherwise, really good meal!

The best thing about eating here has to do with the patio on the back deck, the ambiance of over looking the water, the boats going by and the music playing. On the deck it really does have an Old Florida feel. It is the place to be. Our server was Tyler and he is easy to spot with two large star tattoos on his elbows and it was his second day, and we were a large party, and......well he was really amazing and service was terrific. Now this is a restaurant that you should know what to order going in because there is the "really outstanding" and the "really not up to par" Here is our large party's line up: Bang Bang Shrimp - a huge hit at our table, which started a contest to determine who could have the last shrimp. Fried Squash - good but not great, our table preferred crisp and thin versus larger, but it had a great flavor. Salad - are you kidding me, who gives a salad with your meal this large? Maybe only here and Big Boy Bob's in Chicago. Another great dish. Fried Oysters - another big hit, my mother loves crisp oysters and she ate every bit. Coconut Shrimp - oh my gosh, so good that those who ordered it did not want to share. A big hit. Scallops - medium size, well prepared, try them blackened for the most flavor. Plantains - okay, I am biased, I love plantanos and I really enjoyed these Steak and Shrimp - good idea, bad delivery. The shrimp were grilled and spot on, however I ordered the steak medium and it came out well. WHO ORDERS A STEAK AT A SEAFOOD RESTAURANT? This was completely my bad call. Key Lime Pie - order a dozen and bring them to your friends. Really, it is that good. Blueberry Bread Pudding - I love blueberries and will order them any way I can get them, but this dish was an epic fail. Again, why order blueberries at a restaurant title Old Florida. Read the previous dessert and order Key Lime Pie. Cheesecake with Bananas Foster Topping - really really good and the second favorite dessert at the table. Okay, as best I can do to let you know this place is worth a try. Go in the late afternoon, enjoy the deck, schedule an airboat ride and for the love of Pete, don't order steak.

This place was pretty good. Nice view of the intracoastal waters. If you go on a nice sunny day-- there's a lot of activities to be observed fr the deck-- jet skiis, boaters, kayakers coming in and out of the water. Foo was pretty good and service was excellent. Very friendly people, casual atmosphere.

Warning: This was one of my favorite places until A FEW NIGHTS AGO. We had dinner on the outside deck after a long wait.. But that wasn't the problemas the food here is Delicious.. The problem came when we were leaving and the inside light were dimmed to nearly off and the Private Party inside was a Swingers Party.. The girls had on G strings that ran from front to back..So not only was Butt hanging out but Vagina as well..In A Restaurant where ppl Eat...Seriously?? My elderly mother was with me and the horror that came across her face..the disrespect to other patrons..and what about health issues for ppl who do not want drippy things near or close to their food?

I didn't eat here... But i did take the air boat ride. Before take off, a few of the passengers were raving about the food, so take that for what it's worth. This review is only for the airboat ride. The weather was beautiful and it made our first time out on an airboat an experience to remember. We saw lots of dolphin activity, something my 4 little kiddies really enjoyed. I thought we had signed up for the 30 min tour, but it ended up being an hour long ride filled with a few daredevil 360 spins and drifts. That noted, I did feel that it was a little rough for my 2 littler kids (1 & 4)... All kids 6 and under got a safety vest, but you better believe I was holding on to my 1 year old for dear life each time we took a hard spin or a jump over a few sandbars! The ride was calmer towards the end--- enough that 2 of my kiddies fell asleep. There was informative narratives re: dolphins and the marshlands given at a few intervals during the ride, so that's a well deserved nod for educational value. What didn't get this experience a 5 star rating was the issue I had with cost. I had purchased a Restaurant.com certificate that clearly stated it could be used towards the non-restaurant activities. Unfortunately, that wasn't completely true-- it could only be used towards one ride for one person and towards its full cost, not the $49 price the establishment's website has had posted on their site since I bought the certificate last March. I had called earlier to make the reservation and mentioned I had the certificate ($100 towards $200) that I had planned to use towards the attraction for my crew, and nothing was mentioned re: the special limitations that it ended up coming with. They did end up knocking off $100 from my total due to the misunderstanding, but it still ended up being more than I had thought I was going to fork out. But since the tour ended up being twice as long as I anticipated, I do feel like I did get my money's worth in the end. Long story short, I will definitely give feedback to Restaurant.com that there needs to be a little more clarity added to the "amenities" section for this place. Lesson learned--- get total cost quote BEFORE booking reservations like this. Would I do it again? Sure, when we have out of towner guests looking for a unique Florida experience... But I'll be leaving the littler ones with the grandparents.

Took an hour to get our food, was literally one ounce of fish on an enormous bun for 10$.. Left hungry, had to go home and make lunch. Never again

Food is excellent. Service is a little slow but we didn't care. Jimmy buffet playing on the speakers. Beer is cold. View from patio is great. I plan on going back.

Old Florida Fish Camp and Seafood Shack is the re-invented Crazy Fish restaurant. The owner is the same. When he stopped by our table to see how everything was going with our dinner, I asked him if he would still honor our "Shuffle and Dine" card from Crazy Fish, and he immediately agreed. He conveyed to us that he had tried to respond to some customers comments when he re-invented the restaurant. One change he mentioned was the way customers used to place their order up front off a chalkboard menu, but now customers are seated and order from a menu with their waiter. The interior has been brightened up with a white paint job and a beautiful new bar. Brown leather chairs in a cozy waiting nook definitely look more upscale than the previous look. Colorful paintings line the walls. The deck has polished wooden tables and benches along the railing to take advantage of the great views, and new bright red umbrellas shield diners from the sun. Our waiter was very solicitous. He made sure we knew about happy hour right away so that we could take advantage of it before it ended. The beer list has not been updated, and could use a boost from some of our local breweries--only Bud, Yuengling and Sweetwater on tap. Bottles of Mexican beer and domestics were also on the list, but not enough variety here. My man settled for a Sweetwater, and I am embarrassed to report that I ordered a froo-froo drink because of the happy hour deal. It was a pink sunset:a vodka, lemon and strawberry concoction that was easy to drink, but left me feeling pleasantly relaxed as I perused the menu. Something about ordering from a chalkboard makes you think that the fish you're ordering might have been flopping around on a boat deck this morning. Something about a plastic menu makes you think that the fish you're ordering probably came from Alaska last month. Personally, I liked the old way of ordering, but you can't please everyone. It seemed like there wasn't much to choose from in the way of fish, especially considering this is a "fish camp." I'm wondering now if our waiter forgot to tell us the fish specials in his rush to get our drinks. My husband and I both ordered shrimp instead. Around here, you can usually be assured that the shrimp will be fresh, due to our proximity to Mayport. He went with the fried, and I got the blackened. My shrimp were grilled to perfection and flavorful, covered with blackening spices. There were a decent number of them (about a dozen? I ate them so quickly, I forgot to count) for the 16 dollar price which also included a salad and two sides. I didn't care for the breading on the fried shrimp that I snagged from my husband's plate: too bready. The vegetable of the day was a mysterious concoction of squash, carrots and cabbage, all boiled together. Strange. Another mystery: we both ordered it, but our servings looked different. Mine was all squash and carrots, with almost no cabbage, and his was all cabbage and carrots with a slice or two of squash placed on top. I would advise the chef to keep trying; this was not his best creation. The salads and fries were good, but pretty standard. The deck is a great place to watch a sunset over the intracoastal. While we were there, a pod of dolphins swam by. The restaurant offers dolphin watching boat tours and air boat tours as well as kayak rentals. Overall, this is a good place to enjoy a sunset with a (domestic) beer in your hand, and order some standard seafood.

Hubby & I celebrated our 10th anniversary here on Friday and had a very good experience. I did not give a 5 star rating because I did think the prices were a little bit high, I usually don't like to pay for 'atmosphere', but occasionally it is okay. But, if you want a lot of food, at a good price, try Parson's or Seafood Kitchen, or even Gene's Seafood. Before I describe the food, let me tell you how great the service was! What a pleasant waitress. She was prompt, kind, and new the menu. I just wish I could remember her name. She helped make the evening so very nice. I will say the seafood tasted great. But, the sides, not so much, and the hush puppies really went to our dogs when we got home --- no taste except oil -- yuck! Sitting on the deck on a starry night eating and enjoying Jimmy Buffet in concert on the radio, watching the sunset ---- now that was what we paid for and enjoyed! Watching the boaters come in was interesting too. We started with bang bang shrimp (hubby wanted more 'bang', but they were perfect to me) & fried squash. Then came a salad and blue crab chowder, the salad was good -- not much can go wrong with lettuce & tomato (it was really a cobb salad without the ham & turkey). The chowder needed more seasoning, salt and pepper (lots of pepper) made it okay for hubby, I didn't care for it at all. Next came our entrees. We both chose the Captain's platter; which on the menu said it had fish, shrimp, oysters and crayfish meat, but they were out of the crayfish and I opted for more shrimp instead of the oysters. So, I ended up with a huge fillet of white flaky fish. and shrimp that were plump and tasty. Hubby enjoyed his oysters, said they were cleaned good with no grit at all. The sides we had were fried plantains, cole slaw, & french fries. The plantains were the best of the three. We took home two boxes; fish, fries, cole slaw and the huge baseball size hushpuppies. The dogs enjoyed the hushpuppies & fries Friday night. I enjoyed a fish sandwhich on Saturday; hubby has one in his lunch box today! :) The restaurant inside looked very dull and I would not have enjoyed eating inside at all, so unless it is a good evening or mild afternoon I would not choose this place. If you want to hang out at a bar, it looked nice and roomy, several people were enjoying beers and TV. The restroom was clean and offered nice choices of hand cleaners -- yes more than one! They even had a bowl of 'crystals' to use, that smelled very pleasant and made my hands so soft, a very nice touch. (I did not understand why there was a life size black giraffe outside in the corner near the entrance - but, I guess he was a friend for the oversized jaguar!) :) And, both were the friends of the dozens of cats we saw gathering under the decks! :)

Crappy service. Food was sub par. Had the "bang bang shrimp" which was no more than fried shrimp in trinidad sauce. *update* i was sick as a dog about 20you mins after leaving.

I hated to even give this one star. This was probably one of if not the worst places I have ever eaten at. Our first clue that it sucked was the lack of cars in the parking lot on a Saturday night with nice weather. Then we walked in and stood there for a min. waiting on someone to help us. Walked further into the restaurant and finally someone told us to sit where we wanted. My knife in the silverware was dirty. Another couple had to send back a fish filet that was not cooked all the way. Those several signs right there should have been enough and we should have left. The waiter smelled of cigarette smoke and when our food arrived had no concept of not reaching over someone's food. I ordered a fish taco ala carte and a shrimp dinner. Now for $16.99 and in an area that is known for their shrimp, I would expect some pretty awesome shrimp. Our food came out and there were 7 yes I said 7 shrimp. My child who got a hot dog got more food than I did. They were small shrimp too. Just a step up from being popcorn size. I almost want to laugh but I wanted to cry even more. I could have gone to Captain D's and ordered a $4.99 meal and have gotten almost as many shrimp and they would have been the same size. Now onto the actual food itself. The fish taco was good. The shrimp was not fresh and had an odd flavor (hopefully I won't get sick) and the coleslaw was warm and not good. Fries were ok. My son could only eat the wiener of his hot dog because it was served on some kind of French bread or something and it was tough and he could not bite into it. My husband ordered the crab cakes. He said they were ok, nothing to write home about. We had to ask for a refill on our drinks and for our check. So some 60 odd dollars later we made it out of there stunned by the whole thing. Normally I do not write a place off after one visit but it was so bad that I will never darken their doorway again. Recap: Service was crap, food was crap and portion sizes were a joke and way way over priced. Do your wallet and stomach a favor and don't bother with it.

SMH.... Very disappointing. My wife and I ate here and the food was terrible. The fish of the day was red snapper and it was entirely over seasoned and the choice of sides included fries, tomatoes, fried and sweet plantains and sliced potatoes. My order was the steak of the day which was a sirloin. The steak had no seasoning and was cooked to to to well, it was dry as hell and was tough like beef jerky, and it was suppose to be cooked medium. And oh yeah. It was 28.00 for the little 12oz. Sirloin. Another couple with us ordered two captain platter which was suppose to come with either a choice of soup and salad. They were pissed because they didnt have no soup and they gave them there platter without the oysters WTF? and they way they did was so slick, they just gave them the platter and didnt say anything. the couple had to ask about the oysters and that was when they were informed that they had ran out. This place was a complete rip off and I do see it going down hill. Would not recommend this place to anyone.

View is amazing!! Food was really good and higher end then what I would expect at a fish camp. It was a little pricey, given the casual atmosphere I would have expected a lower price point. Service was a little slow, but then again the laid back atmosphere would suggest a slow pace. I got the mahi mahi with fresh vegetables and black beans and rice. The fish was delicious! It was prepared blackened and had a little kick to it. The filet was also a nice size, big enough to fit the price. The vegetables were grilled zucchini and carrots which hit the spot. I'm always nervous in ordering grilled veggies as a side as usually you get frozen veggies steamed in the microwave. This was not the case, you could tell they were fresh and they had a great seasoning/ taste to it. So happy we found this gem!
